  • Banking Activity Increases In States That Legalize Marijuana, Study Finds (Marijuana Moment)  

    While marijuana businesses often find it difficult to find financial institutions to work with while there is still federal prohibition of marijuana, a recent study implies a strong correlation between states that have legalized cannabis and increasing banking activity in these states. 

    In a study that included FDIC filings from 2011 to 2016, it was noted that deposits increased an average of 3.14-4.33% and bank lending increased 6.54-8.62% post-legalization

    There are more than a dozen California cities that will open more recreational cannabis licenses in 2022, either by increasing the number of available permits or by entering the sector for the first time. 

    Cities appear to be anxious to bring in additional tax revenue as the pandemic continues and other factors drove down public repositories. 

    Currently only 115 of California's 482 cities (roughly 24%) have licensed dispensaries opened today.
